Hoyt Formula Prodigy Brace Height
Now the the ATA show is over all the new products for 2017 are out. The 2017 compound bows are out. I want to review are made by Mathews, Elite, Hoyt, and Bow-tech. At the Scheels that I work at these are the main brands that we carry, and I have had the opportunity to fully inspect everything about these bows.
MATHEW’S HALON 32:So, first I want to talk about the Mathews Halon 32. The halon 32 is not a crazy change from last year, but the 2 extra inches that they added from axle to axle has only improved an already great bow. It seems to sit in your hand a lot better when at full draw, and this will allow you to shoot longer distances more accurately. Being 2 inches shorter also reduces the string angle which helps with knock pinch. This bow has a great draw cycle to me as well. Its not very difficult to get back, and when at full draw it has a very nice back wall. The Halon 32 also isn’t very “jumpy”, and what I mean by this is when you are at full draw the string doesn’t seem to want to rip out of your hands as soon as you let any weight off of your drawing arm.It is also incredibly fast with Mathew’s cross centric cam system. The Cross centric Cam system is a dual cam bow which also features Mathews’ patented AVS system. This is the same system that last years halon had, and also came from the no cam.
The Mathew’s 2017 Avil and Stoker bow, which is their women and kids bow, also have the same system. The Halon 32 has 3 models, and I recommend the 5 if your have a shorter draw length, the 6 if you have a 28-30 inch draw, and the 7 if your draw if past 30 inches. However, I would say to shoot them all, and see which one works for you. 5″ brace height, up to 350 fps. 6″ brace height, up to 343 fps. 7″ brace height, up to 335 fpsCheck it out:HOYT PRO DEFIANT:The next bow I want to talk about is the Hoyt Pro Defiant.

The browser you are using to visit HOYT.com is too old to work properly. To determine the weight on your Hoyt bow, refer to the limb specifications located on each limb. The weight marked on the limb is measured at a 28” standard A.T.A. Howdy I've recently purchased new a HOYT Prodigy RX 25' riser and 30lb HOYT Quattro limbs, medium, so a 68' bow. I've downloaded the latest HOYT Recurve manual and there's no reference to the HOYT Prodigy RX in there. I would like to know: what is the correct string length for this riser?
Hoyt had amazing success with the Defiant and carbon defiant, and because of this success they did’t change it a lot. The riser is a little different, but it features most of the same technology that that 2016 defiant had.The DFX cam system adds 3 inches to the axle to axle when you draw back.
This helps make the string angle better for knock pinch, and also tries to bring the peep sight into the optimal position for your eye. Hoyt’s idea behind this is to have the bow help you get into a better shooting form.
If your are newer to archery I would recommend this bow to you.Compare to the other bows I am mentioning this is easily the most quiet, because of the shorter axle to axle and how quiet this bow is, I would rather take this hunting than the Halon 32. However, if I was a big 3D shooter I would want the Halon 32.Everything about the defiant is great, and it is an amazing shooting bow. The one thing I could say is that it is harder to hold steady than the Halon 32 because of how light it is. Once you get a good stabilizer and some other accessories on the bow it corrects this problem quickly.Check it out:ELITE OPTION:Now, I don’t really want to talk bad about any of these bows, because they are all great. Shoot them all to see if you have a different opinion then me, and what fits you the best. I say this because at first I was disappointed in Elite’s first split limb bow the Option.
Elite is known for their amazing back wall and valley, but when they came out and I shot it there was no valley at all.As soon as you relax your arm the bow wants to rip the string from your hand. In a hunting situation I would not want this because you may have to hold back a long time. You are bound to relax your arm slightly at some point, and it could jump forward which would spook the animal your hunting.Recently Elite changed where the draw stop hits the limb.

This allows the cam to rotate more and extend the valley to feel like a normal Elite Bow. I am extremely happy the were proactive in solving this problem. So, if you shot this bow when it first came out I would go back and shot it again.
Just make sure your pro shop has made these changes.Check it out:BOWTECH REIGN:Last but not least the Bow-tech Reign. Just like Hoyt and Mathews, Bow-tech expanded from their 2016 bow the BTX. The best thing from the BTX that I am glad they brought back is the ability to change into different settings. They have a turbo, classic, and comfort setting. It completely changes how the bow shoots, and allows some extra customization for the shooter. This is Bow-tech’s PowerShift Technology that offers a great customizable draw cycle.Micro Sync Dial offers a fine detail tuning capability to the Reign. You can change the timing of the Reign without a bow press.
Giving you the ability to quickly tune your bow, and not have to go to have archery shop to do it.The Reign also was designed with the outrigger counterweight system which offsets the weight of the accessories to help with balancing the bow, and allowing it to sit in your hand better. Its also extremely fast, and it comes at a 6″ brace height and a 7″ brace height. The Halon 32 and the reign are the fastest bows I have talked about at a crazy 350 fps.One thing I need to mention about the Reign, and I noticed in with the BTX as well is that the limbs are prone to breaking. We have had three of these bows come back to use with breaks up close to the cam. When you draw it back you can visually see this is when the limbs are bending the most.Check it out:If your are looking for a new bow I would make sure to find the right fit for you. The all have certain features that make them unique. So, get out there and test fire which ever ones you may be interested in, or even all of them.
