I'm playing a bit of this old mod, which on the surface looks very interesting with lots of extra features. But there are some real oddities which are causing me some problems. Maybe one of you can set me straight on this. The major thing that is bugging me is that if you climb some buildings above floor one, you will find a lot of weapons in chests that don't cost you any money to grab and keep.
For example, SPOILER ALERT:There is a chest in Louisville, actually 2 chests at least, near the General Store. You can even find Cannon there, etc. Now, the problem is, if you are in a fight and searching an area, you might think these are spoils and grab them.
But it seems they are just storage chests for free loot. I didn't even have to fight to get to them. Are there no repurcussions?-Two more minor problems are:1) Weapons may be cap and ball - using Muzzleloading ammo (either for Pistol or Rifle variants) or they may be Bullet or Cartridge (using what is called Paper and Cartridge Ammo). Basically two types for each length of weapon (rifle or pistol). The issue is that these weapons don't usually state clearly what type of ammo they use. You have to learn through familiarity. Don't see a clear list anywhere in game or so on.2) There is a reversed grip knife that you can use that is for melee only.
Problem is its range is longer than most hatchets and as far as a sabre's reach. Perhaps it suggests clandestine range edge, but I sincerely doubt it.3) Inconsistencies like this are rampant throughout the mod, although it seems quite entertaining. There seems to be more than occasional problems with stats or prices of items in terms of value expected.Yet the mod is highly rated at least in the old reviews. Again, it is entertaining, but it has a ton of errors like this. It would seem a simple pass through the stats could have fixed most of these issues, yet the modder Gabrilduro worked on it for years and had many versions.-Has anyone tried 1.5 and not had these errors, perhaps my download is just screwball, although I've tried 2 different downloads to check.Perhaps someone can suggest a more consistent substitute.
This is not, I believe, available by the Steam Workshop, so this was installed the old fashioned way. The mod is a bit shonky, always has been (I remember when the 2nd Mexican Empire was the French Territories, with the capital city of French City 1, owned by French Lord 1).
The chests with OP weapons thing is a recurring issue. I don't recall if Gabrilduro the follower still comes pre-armed with a cannon-ball gun, but I haven't seen someone hawking cheat weapons from a barstool, so that's nice.I can only add that in Warband the best boots in the game are in a pile of hay in a random town.1. Just walk into town, or the bar if you can't be bothered to wait for loading. No muzzle-loader ammo has the same round # as bullet ammo, so take in both and see if you have as many rounds as the number of cartridges or balls that you brought in.
Muzzle-loaders tend to be long, short of height, and flat of width, and most cartridge-feeders mention it somewhere in the name or design.2. Trust me, melee in this game is not important unless you're fighting the Plains Indians and/or have no clue what you're doing.3. I actually know what you're talking about. Here's the weapons side explained: These things have so much range that damage dropoff is their only issue, so the damage stat has more to do with range.

As for armor, I think they're trying to make it so that you have to attack the horse or the horseman and not just stab him in the knees, and that's why my hat gives me +7 head protection and +14 leg protection.4. I'm suprised that you didn't mention artillery in more depth. Cannonballs are high-range impact grenades that you're supposed to use while standing in the model of a dropped cannon. It's absolutely ridiculous and stretches immersion greatly when it isn't just being abused wholesale. The reason why people love this mod regardless is because of the heart put into this one in particular, and being based on Western mythos and the real Civil Wars of the era, any fantasy you have involving of the period can be lived, whether it be chasing bank robbers through town or being a Civil War general, altering the course of the Mexican-French War or becoming a bandit yourself, with cinematic and believable everything (weapons, sound effects, maps, etc.). It's a compeltley unique game with this mod on.
